Sustainable Shark Tourism, Mission & Citizen Science

SUSTAINABLE SHARK TOURISMThe shark diving industry has grown greatly in recent years and 500,000 people are now estimated to pay to dive with sharks around the world every year.

Sustainable shark diving tourism has the potential to contribute to protect and save threatened species, as it can facilitate first-hand observations and data on shark populations worldwide. Moreover, responsible shark tourism provides an attractive alternative to extractive shark fishing, especially in those countries where species-rich shark diving opportunities are found.

MISSION

With the alarming decline of shark populations worldwide, The Shark Odyssey utilizes citizen science and good research methods as tools to conserve these keystone species of the world's oceans.

CITIZEN SCIENCE

Citizen Science offers the general public the opportunity to gather data to help scientists accomplish their research goals. This approach is used by scientists worldwide as an invaluable source of information, which would be logistically impossible to achieve by other means.
